Empowering Customer Centricity: A Case Study on Medtronic's Evolution Towards Servitization

Abstract

In the ever-changing and dynamic field of medical technology (MedTech), companies aiming to thrive and expand in the face of shifting market conditions must establish effective organizational structures. A comprehensive analysis of corporate websites and scholarly literature uncovers barriers to the commercialization of medical products. This research comprehensively analyzes the case study of Medtronic, a major global player in the MedTech sector. The primary objective of Medtronic is to improve its operational efficiency and strengthen its competitive advantage in a dynamic market by strategically adopting servitization and customer-centric approaches.

The research study used qualitative methodologies, especially semi-structured interviews with four key participants, to gather data from a case company working in the MedTech sector during its early stages of servitization transformation. The content of the illustrated organization is subjected to thematic analysis to enhance the correlation between servitization and an entity that offers shared sales and services. Medtronic, as they navigate the shift towards servitization and strive to enhance customer-centric design paradigms in marketing medical products. A comprehensive examination of the project's tactics, lessons learned, and evolution cycle studies will be conducted to accomplish this objective. The principal contribution of this paper is a framework that captures the stages and key characteristics of operations for customer-centric servitization.
